Adrian Cross noticed the change before anyone else did. He did not rush toward her or pretend not to understand the silence. Instead, he waited with the kind of attention that made a room feel smaller, warmer, and much more dangerous. "Tell me what you want from this moment," he said, as if the answer mattered more than the risk. One message arrives from Adrian himself, unsigned but unmistakable, asking what a powerful man should do when the truth embarrasses him into wanting better. The anonymous midnight column became more than an object between them. It became a language: pause, return, choose, confess.
